About This Dog for Adoption

Ernie's ideal home

Ernie is a 3 year old Greyhound looking for a patient and understanding family to help him settle into his new home. He would like to be the only pet in the home but could have some similar size doggy friends to socialise with outside of the home. Ernie does have a high prey drive and so will need to be walked on lead and muzzled when in public as he is very interested in anything small and fluffy! He will need a decent sized, secure garden of his own so he has space for zoomies and lazing in the sunshine. He has started his muzzle training and will need to continue this once in the home, our training and behaviour team can help advise you on this. Ernie can be worried by cars so would prefer walks to be easily accessible from home without the need to travel until he has built his confidence up around cars a bit. Ernie is a friendly boy and could live with children of secondary school age or older that can appreciate he can be worried by loud noises and sudden movements.

Could you be Ernie's perfect match?

Ernie is a real sweetheart who enjoys a gentle fuss, he has been instantly friendly with everyone he has met and regularly enjoys walks with the volunteers at the centre and he walks nicely on lead. He is a real foodie so treats will be a great reward for any training and this would be a great way for him to build a bond with his new family. Ernie has so much potential and for a family willing to help him build his confidence, we know he will blossom into a loving and loyal companion.

Greyhound Puppy Buying Checklist

We highly recommend every buyer reads through the below advice when purchasing or rehoming a Greyhound.

  • View the animal in the place it was born and raised - check for genuine home environments if buying privately, or the quality of the breeders set-up if applicable.
  • If viewing a puppy under 8 weeks, by law they MUST be seen with their mum.
  • Make sure the animal's old enough to be rehomed. 8 weeks should be the earliest a puppy can be rehomed.
  • By law, all dogs MUST be microchipped
  • Review and verify any documents, such as KC registration paperwork where applicable

Avoid Potential Scams

There are a number of red flags to look out for when purchasing a new puppy:

  • Seller demands a deposit without allowing you to see the dog first - never send any money before meeting the animal in person
  • Seller is reluctant to send you additional photos or videos
  • Seller offers to deliver the dog/puppy
  • Seller asks to meet in a mutual location
  • Seller uses fake or stolen photos from the internet. Always carry out a "Google image search".
  • Seller asks to immediately switch to communication off the Greyhound Owners website
  • Seller uses a different phone number to the one listed on the website - especially if that phone number is in one of the advert images

Although we have a number of automated systems in place to prevent scam and fraudulant adverts, these can never be 100% accurate and its important to use caution when buying online. We do not accept any responsibility for transactions between our users, especially when our safe buying advice is not followed.
