About This Dog for Adoption

Dez's ideal home

If you are after a handsome, calm companion who enjoys his walks and loves a good sniff around the fields, then Dez might be your kind of dog.

At 2 years old, Dez is an ex-racing Greyhound who is now ready to leave the track life behind and find a cosy home to call his own. Dez is quite content to stretch out in his bed, enjoy the peace and quiet, and take the world in at his own pace. He loves getting out and about, especially when there are new places to explore and plenty of interesting smells.

Dez would love a garden where he can have his daily burst of zoomies, then head inside for a well-earned nap on the sofa. He could live with another dog, especially another sighthound like his current kennel-mate Paddy, though it is not essential. He could also live with older children aged 11+ who understand his need for space and are happy to let him come to them in his own time.

Could you be Dez's perfect match?

Dez is looking for a calm home with people who will appreciate his independent streak. He is a sweet boy, friendly with everyone he meets, but not overly fussed about constant cuddles or attention. He prefers his own space and would suit someone who is happy for him to quietly do his own thing alongside them.

As an ex-racer, Dez will need to be kept on lead in public and is likely to chase small furries, so secure walks and a good-sized garden will be ideal. He is not yet housetrained and he will need patient owners who are happy to help him learn the basics of home life.

Dez has taken well to life at the centre—he settles nicely in his kennel, has been good with handling, vet checks, grooming, and walks nicely on the lead. He is curious about new places and although toys are not really his thing yet, he has enjoyed a licki mat and is happy to take treats gently. He is still learning about travelling in a car, but with a bit of practice, he should get the hang of it.

If you are looking for a gentle, low-key companion who will quietly slot into your life and enjoy a mix of peaceful downtime and outdoor adventures, Dez could be the one. He will bring a steady, soothing presence to the right home.
